“I love the profusion of white clematis flowers above the tree canopy in the spring and have used the repeating clematis flower as my inspiration.
Each flower is individually laser cut from steel, then welded together to form a dome. The white dome adorns the hillside from afar. When you approach you can enter through a low doorway and sit or lie and enjoy the play of patterns and light. It is a quiet space for reflection and contemplation, my little church for the non-religious.”

Tania Patterson is a full time jeweller/sculptor living in rural Waipu, Northland.

She attended Unitec, Auckland, from 1986-89 and obtained a Diploma in Craft Design. Patterson has exhibited jewellery widely in both New Zealand and Australia. She contributed to headland Sculpture on the Gulf back in 2007; her piece was sold to the Manukau Events Centre. Her work is held in the collections of Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington, Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt, and Auckland Museum.

Patterson’s designs are for the most part drawn from her fascination with nature. Seed pods and their wonderful forms have been an inspiration and she has made many variations of opening pods with carved wood interiors. Other work explores the patterns and colours of leaves, sometimes using enamel paint to intricately render the surfaces.
