The Gateway Pavilion, Stevens Lawson Architects
“The Gateway was built for the 2017 event to form a ceremonial entry and meeting place to Sculpture on the Gulf, to a design by Stevens Lawson Architects originally commissioned for the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale. According to the designers, The Gateway is a representation of the dance between nature and culture, the poetics of geometry and the techtonics of transformation.
This skeletal architectural form (now privately owned) is composed of 255 pieces of laminated pine, each piece fixed to the next and forming a continuous abstract spiral from one end to the other. It was developed and installed with the assistance of staff and students from Unitec Architecture and Engineering Schools.”
