Ngaahina Hohaia, Taranaki iwi, Parihaka (Ngāti Moeahu, Ngāti Haupoto)
Ngaahina Hohaia lives between Auckland and her hometown of Parihaka. She studied a Masters Degree in Maori Visual Arts at Te Putahi a Toi, Massey University, Palmerston North. Ngaahina is an interdisciplinary artist, her sculptures are often made from woven harakeke, metals or woollen blankets and incorporate film and sound. Her mixed-media installation works are politically charged and explore a post-colonialist discourse.
Ngaahina received an Arts Foundation of New Zealand New Generation Award in 2010.
Ngaahina has exhibited throughout New Zealand and overseas.
