Julie Moselen – Biography
With a background in metalcraft and jewellery design, Julie Moselen’s multi-disciplinary practice has most recently focused on large-scale metal sculpture. Interested in the relationships between light and space, her works can be understood as visual descriptions of divinity, inspired by the mathematical rhythms and shapes repeated throughout the natural world. It simultaneously depicts both the feminine and masculine, softness and strength.
UK-born, Moselen completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Metalcraft and Jewellery Design before moving to Aotearoa in 1998 where she worked as a contemporary Jewellery Designer.
Over the past 20 years, she has since broadened her practice to encompass printmaking, painting and stone-carving, before settling in metal sculpture. Moselen has shown throughout Aotearoa at sculpture events such as NZ Sculpture on Shore and her work is held in several private collections, nationally and internationally. Most recently Moselen won the Benefactors Award at the National Small Sculpture Awards Exhibition, Waiheke.
