Jonas Raw – Biography
Jonas Raw is a Waiheke Island based artist passionate about combining art with function to awaken curiosity and creativity.
Jonas Raw expresses his motivation in designing his art inspired by nature. A leaf of a palm tree becomes a roof structure of a building, a rock formation the new form of a coffee table and the ocean the shape of a wooden bowl. His work is part of nature, not something outside of it.
During his apprenticeship in his native country Germany Jonas was awarded the best cabinetmaker of his state and was granted a scholarship to further train in Hawaii USA with Tai Lake, a renown furniture maker on the Big Island in Kona. After 2 years he returned home to study Interior Design and Architecture and qualified with a Bachelor of Art. During his studies he started his own company designing and building interiors for restaurants, building artistic furniture and sculptures. In 2012 he arrived in New Zealand and now lives and creates on Waiheke Island. It is here that Jonas founded Space Creators Ltd, a building company and platform for architects, builders, cabinet makers and artists to offer their talent to the community as a team and collective. With sustainability in mind Space Creators focus lies in high end construction and the health and wellbeing of the team and community.
